Market FAQs
A few things worth knowing before your first market morning. Everything below covers the practical side of a visit, from opening times to what your dog needs. Have a read, then come find us at the stalls.
What time do the farmers markets operate?
Our Edgewater, West Footscray, Yarraville and Spotswood farmers markets run from 9am to 1pm. Slow Foodscray, our Sunday community market in Footscray, runs from 10am to 3pm.
Is there parking at the markets?
Spotswood has on-site parking in the school car parks, plus street parking. Yarraville has on-site parking on Court St, plus street parking in surrounding streets. Edgewater and West Footscray have street parking nearby that fills quickly, so arrive before 9:30am if you're driving. Slow Foodscray has paid parking in the Footscray CBD car parks. Wherever you can, we encourage you to walk, cycle or catch the train.
Can I bring my dog to the market?
Well-behaved, toilet-trained dogs are welcome, provided they're comfortable around crowds. Please help us keep the market safe and enjoyable for everyone by following our Dog Policy
What payment do the stalls accept?
Most stallholders accept cards, but it's worth carrying a little cash just in case. There are no ATMs on site.
What if it rains?
Our markets all operate rain, hail or shine. Dress for the weather and pull on your boots and pack a raincoat on rainy days. Most stalls are under cover, with additional sheltered areas to keep you dry.
Where does the gold coin donation go?
Edgewater Donations support food security programs run by the West Footscray Op Shop and the Sunshine Harvest Community Garden at Werribee Park. West Footscray Proceeds go to supporting local sporting groups like West Footscray Roosters and other local community groups. Spotswood Proceeds support Spotswood Primary School, and both Spotswood and Yarraville fundraising efforts support emergencies and crisis events.
Are you kid friendly?
Yes, in fact we encourage children to attend our markets to better understand where food comes from. All of market sites offer open spaces and plenty of room for kids to run, play and explore.
Is there coffee?
Yes. Regular coffee vendors attend all of our markets.
Is the West Footscray market the same as the Footscray market?
No. West Footscray Farmers Market is at Johnson Reserve on Essex St. The Footscray Market on Hopkins St is a separate permanent covered market — both worth visiting, offering very different experiences.
Become a Stallholder
Good, Clean and Fair isn't a slogan on a banner. It's how we select stallholders, what we look for when a producer asks to join, and the standard the Snail of Approval is built on. Read our Stallholder Criteria
